Candidate Profile
Barbara Kraus-Blackney Visionary Service Award nominees’ contributions may reflect an ongoing or extraordinary gift of time, commitment, expertise, or financial support. Falling under one or more of the traditional categories of contributions of “Work, Wealth, and Wisdom,” or the more recent categories of “Raise Friends, Raise Funds, Raise Students,” award nominees should be:
- Exemplary school trustees, volunteers, and/or philanthropists, or
- Individuals, not directly tied to one institution, yet having had a profound impact on area independent school education, or
- Education professionals who have shown outstanding commitment and service to the broader educational professional community in addition to their individual school.
In general, the ADVIS Board will not consider posthumous nominations.
Who Can Nominate
Award recipients are nominated by approved representatives from ADVIS member schools. Candidates may be nominated by school staff or trustees, with the approval of the Head of School, or by members of the ADVIS Board of Trustees.
Nominations carry forward for a period of three years, at which time a candidate may be re-nominated.
Relevant Dates
- February
- Nomination forms are sent to ADVIS member Heads of School and Board Chairs
- March
- Completed nomination forms are returned to ADVIS on or before March 31
- May
- ADVIS Board of Trustees decides on honoree
When the ADVIS Board has determined the recipient of the award for the coming fall, the Chair of the Board will contact the chosen recipient. The President of ADVIS will contact the nominating Head of School.
