Professional Bio
Michael G. Turner is an accomplished leader with nearly 30 years of experience in education, private industry, and government. As Head of School at The Shipley School (2019–2024) and St. Michael’s Episcopal School (2014–2019), he led strategic initiatives, strengthened governance, and secured financial stability. He now serves as Senior Advisor at Shipley, supporting its transition and strategic priorities.
A proven financial steward, Mr. Turner led a $12 million campus master plan and a $4.2 million capital campaign, ensuring long-term sustainability. His leadership consistently produced budget surpluses, expanded revenue streams, and reduced financial pressures through strategic debt restructuring.
Recognized for risk and crisis management, he navigated active shooter threats, public relations crises, and institutional challenges. He designed and led Shipley’s acclaimed COVID-19 response, balancing health, safety, academics, and community continuity.
In enrollment and advancement, he increased net tuition revenue, expanded sections, reduced attrition, and surpassed fundraising goals. He launched a $1 million community bridge fund, ensuring students remained enrolled despite financial hardship. He also improved faculty compensation and transparency, enhancing perceptions of fairness and value.
Previously, Mr. Turner was Director of Admission at St. Christopher’s School and taught while coaching at The Roxbury Latin School and Germantown Academy. A head varsity football coach for 13 years, his teams won multiple league titles and a state championship runner-up finish.
He holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, where he captained the Ivy League champion football team and earned Academic All-Ivy honors. He later earned an M.Ed. from Arcadia University and is an Ed.D. candidate at William & Mary.
Known as “Pup” to family and friends, he lives with his wife, Meredith, and their three children.
